THE NINE CHAMBERED HEART by JANICE PARIAT | Book Review

Book Name: The Nine Chambered Heart

Author: Janice Pariat

Publisher: HarperCollins India

Genre: Fiction

Summary:
Nine characters recall their relationships with a young woman - the same woman - whom they have loved, or who has loved them. We piece her together through the nine narratives.
This book is about the fragmented nature of identity, how others see us only in bits and pieces.

My Review:
"How others see us only in bits and pieces, and how sometimes we tend to become what others perceive us to be."
This quote clearly pictures the main idea of the book.
  • The structure of the book is unique. We have no idea about the girl we are reading. And every narrator knows only a part of her life.
  • The narratives were great. There were a few things known by one person, which are unknown to the other. This shows the different kinds of relationships the woman had with these nine people. It shows that each person analyses the girl in different ways.
  • This book might get confusing at some parts, but it makes sense once all the narratives are read.
Each time I read a narrative, I pictured a different woman, but the reality is that all the opinions were about the same woman. This beautifully depicts how everyone has a different opinion about one person.

Final Verdict:
Absolutely Beautiful. Please pick this book up if you want to explore the poetic writing with an amazingly unique script.
